Ego Bubble Has to Burst. Find Your Content-Market Fit

This common mistake in content creation is why your content doesn’t gain traction.

Who decides whether your next piece of content is worth posting? There's a smart formula to help you out. I will explain it and show how to find your content-market fit to avoid the biggest mistake in content creation.

Hold on a second… Before you start working on your content, think about how many readers and views it could get.

  • 100 - is it worth making?

  • 1,000 - looks good.

  • 10,000 - awesome!

Why even bother with the first one? Why waste your time if you already know, it’s not going to land and get the views you want?

“Murder your darlings” to reach the content-market fit

Avoid your obsessions and focusing on yourself. Who are you creating content for? How are you helping or entertaining them? The harsh truth is that you are nothing without your audience. So, put out content that also rewards them and the algorithm of the platform you're on - Google, YouTube, Instagram, etc.

Here’s the magic combination. If you aim for the star, you’ve nailed it!

There are a few proven steps that help you set your target.

Step 1 in content-market fit: test your ideas

Once you have a list of ideas, put them through a filter to parse out the best you should push to production. Test your ideas against a checklist to make sure which ones have a better shot.

You can use this idea testing checklist. Check it out and let me know how you get on!

Step 2 in content-market fit: evaluate your ideas

Once you’re done with testing, define what is required to put your idea into production. If you’re after CONSISTENCY, you should even out your complex ideas with the ones that are simpler to make.

You can use this idea evaluation template. Try it and let me know how you'll do!

Once your idea goes through this step, the process is complete and you’re ready to start working on it. It's not rocket science if you know how to approach the content-market fit.
