7 Tips to Craft Killer, Optimised Content

This is your guide to enticing stories Google loves.

It’s a no-brainer that your content should be optimised. What if I told you optimised content is boring?

You’re not writing for a robot. Stuffing your copy with keywords doesn’t get you the results you deserve. That’s why I’ll let you in on 7 tips to craft stories that are optimised for Google and keep your audience excited. In the end, there’s 1 extra payoff you should definitely use in content creation!

Here are 7 tips to create killer, optimised content.

  • Keyphrases - use long-tail strategic keywords in your content. Even better, use Google search autocomplete before defining these. Sprinkle keyphrases into your title, headings, and copy.

  • Skimmability - keep your sentences short, ~100 characters. Leave air in between, so viewers have time to digest your content.

  • User experience - it’s all about structuring: intro, 3-5 key paragraphs, conclusion. Your intro sets the stage for the rest of your story. Make sure you:

    • define key topics;

    • set expectations and give context how you’ll cover them;

    • overdeliver with extra payoffs.

  • Hooks and loops - hook and re-hook the audience to keep them awake and engaged throughout your content. Pose intriguing questions or state shocking facts that you’ll cover later on.

  • Link - build connections throughout your content. Refer to what you’ve said earlier in the post or link to previous content. You’ll grab audience attention and keep retention.

  • Curiosity gap - throw in educational snippets that make your audience want to learn more. It can be something along the lines of, “Did you know that you can also use this to do that?”

  • Call to action - this is your way to get more eyes! Encourage your audience to read more of your content. If they find this interesting, what should they do next?

Remember to bring your audience on a journey. How?

Extra: define audience payoff.

Early on, set the goal for your content. What should your audience learn or know after reading this? Keep this payoff in mind all the way till the end. Your story is the journey to this payoff.
